Emergency CallWorx Sets Fault Tolerance as 9-1-1 PSAP Minimum Standard
NEC Deal Provides Small PSAPs Affordable 99.999%
Uptime Guarantee and Lowest Cost of Ownership
Madison, AL, April 28, 2009 - Emergency CallWorx (ECX) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with NEC Corporation of America, a premier provider of IT, network and identity management solutions. The agreement enables ECX to provide NEC Express5800 Fault Tolerant (FT) servers to every customer, thus raising the legacy de facto industry standard from mere redundancy to a Fault Tolerant Service Level Agreement (SLA) of up to 99.999% system uptime. Emergency CallWorx has developed the first NG9-1-1, totally integrated, browser-based Call-taking, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Mapping software suite designed on Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and other relevant open standards. This design, with continuous availability at an affordable price, makes the ECX solution extremely attractive to small Public Safety Answering Points with limited staff, equipment and budgets.
Now, even small PSAPs can afford to purchase a complete turnkey fault tolerant solution from Emergency CallWorx for significantly less upfront costs with additional savings in annual maintenance. The total cost of the ECX system is significantly less than legacy vendors' proprietary systems with lower levels of uptime. By providing NEC's Fault Tolerant servers as the recommended minimal platform, ECX customers can confidently centralize key critical functions, such as 9-1-1 call-taking, mapping, and CAD, on an NEC Fault Tolerant server.
As a result, customers will experience the highest level of system integrity, the most affordable price point in the industry, and the lowest annual on-going Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). TCO is substantially reduced because of NEC's FT server design-a fully-redundant hardware architecture that works as a single system and requires only one operating system and one application software license. Compared to clustered systems, the NEC FT is a turnkey solution with rapid and easy system deployment and setup. More importantly, it does not require the more advanced administrative resources typically associated with clustering systems for trouble-shooting, upgrades and maintenance. While small PSAPs employ highly technical individuals, they are spread thin supporting everything from networking to phone systems to radios, while often participating as the call taker, dispatcher and central radio control.
PSAPs deploying ECX's solution can count on the NEC FT's reliability and survivability through redundant processing with automatic switchover of server components, including VoIP telephony and database transactions. Additional benefits include database and VoIP telecom state replication and NEC's optional Active Upgrade™, a feature that eliminates the need to disrupt server operations to apply essential patches and software upgrades.
"Our decades of experience have shown us that redundancy through clustering and other non-fault tolerant methods were neither sufficient enough, nor practical to maintain for the small, rural PSAP," stated Craig Dollar, founder and CEO of Emergency CallWorx. "We are thrilled to have a partner such as NEC to help us realize our vision of providing a seamless, easy-to-use NG9-1-1 workflow that is affordable to the smallest of PSAPs."
"Consolidation and reduced licensing provides an immediate way for PSAP and similar agencies to achieve continuous availability with lower cost of ownership," said Marc Hafner, vice president of Servers and System Software Division, IT Platform Group, NEC Corporation of America. "NEC, through our innovative fault tolerant designs for continuous availability, is able to offer a server product line that delivers the ultimate combination of efficiency, availability, and performance that is required for critical solutions, such as for emergency response services."
NEC's Fault Tolerant servers are part of NEC's Dynamic IT Infrastructure-a solution that includes servers, storage, virtual desktop solutions, and system software which are smart, flexible, adaptive to change, scalable, resilient, and continuously evolving. Along with NEC's complete range of services-the NEC Dynamic IT Infrastructure provides an ideal platform for virtualization, consolidation and business continuity and is ideal for driving greater value and efficiencies in solutions for physical security, law enforcement, emergency response, travel and entertainment, education, high performance computing and business.
